Aila has breast cancer. We don't know a whole lot yet...all that is confirmed are 2 tumors in the left. She had an MRI last week and now they are concerned that about the other breast...but....we don't know yet, so another biopsy... and around it will go.
Thanks all for your kind words, hopeful thoughts and offers of help.

Kids know cancer. A child in their school died of cancer (brain). So the risk is that their worst fears will spin out of control.
Aila came home early the day of the diagnosis. We went to pick the kids up. Jesse said "cool, we get to not have to take the bus.". Emma said, "Why are you home early? Why are you home early? Why you home early?" The next day we went over to friends, but Aila called them before we went over and let them know what was up. The friend's reaction to the phone call clued Emma's friend (their daughter) something bad happened to Aila. Well, that was it. Emma basically risked us having to tell Jesse by incessantly quizzing us, so Aila told her.

Jesse was told a week later.
Aila begins the explanation....
Jesse absorbs the news...
Jesse breaks down.

What we know:
The MD info: Dr. Ching Ho, MD, Gender: Female, Foreign Languages: Chinese. Grad, 1984, University Of Cincinnati School Of Medicine... Top 50% Ranked #42 out of 144 in research quality by US News & World Report. Tumor info: 2, 9x8 mm and 9x6 mm. That they are that small (less than 1 cm) is good news. That there are 2, is bad news.
Aila will be getting a second opinion next week.

Aila will be getting a second opinion next week.
What happens next/soon:
- MRI completed last week. There is concern that the other breast may have involvement. Aila will go through another biopsy next week.
- Dependent on further testing, probably: Surgery, Lumpectomy.
- During surgery there will be a biopsy of lymph tissue to see if there is any migration to lymph system; called a sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Radiation
- Chemo if migrated to lymph
- One concern: It is multifocal; 2 tumors. One would be better. May indicate a more aggressive cancer.
- Radiation therapy is definite: 5 days a week. 5 weeks, 25 total.
- recovery after surgery: ~ 5 days. Wound drainage during that time.
Thanks Peter for the report. Keep it up, my friend. we wish you good luck and positive results.Jaakko and the gang
