Here in New Mexico we've hiked almost every day. In Santa Fe we walked on this path near 10,000 feet. We kept getting warnings from folks, seeing the kids and saying, "It gets pretty slippery, be careful." and we were like, whatever dudes!
After warning the kids over and over to concentrate I slipped down a slope. I was holding on to Emma in case she slipped and as I went over the edge she managed to hang on and over I went . There was nothing to catch me from going down a few hundred feet except for a singular barely alive evergreen about 15 feet below the path. I grabbed for it and caught it and noticed a wet painful sensation in my palms. I thought, well, my hands are bleeding but I'm gonna live! When I climbed back to the path I looked at my palms and they were swollen but not cut. The wetness was snow! That tree saved me from this happening! yay!
Here's a video that gives a sense of the place. We're bad parents!
