Last Sunday Emma was asked to play up a division in soccer. So she played her team's (the "B" team) game at 3:30 and then another (with the "A" team) at 6:30. Then she got another email from the director of coaching asking her to play with the team that is one year older, a Tuesday night game.
So whats going on?
She's getting a rep, that's what.
Here's what happens. A girl comes down the field. She dribbles past the half-line. People start to scream. She goes to the three-quarters line. This girl is blowing by defenders like a hot knife through butter. Dads holler. Moms squeal. Silly parents. Don't they know their children will be stopped?
By Emma!
Who, like the proverbial bat out of hell, stabs, clips, jams, blocks and otherwise dispossesses the erstwhile hero from the ball.
All D, all the time.
Let me give you an example. Her early game on Saturday (with "her" team). They scored early and held a 1-0 lead in to the 2nd half. 10 minutes or so into the 2nd half they take Emma out-- an unusual event. Its like rule one, hello: don't take Emma out. Bad things happen.
Within a minute of Emma resting, the other team scores a goal. "Put me back in." she reportedly tells the coach. "I can't. I just took you out." The other team scores again.
"EMMA!"
She goes in.
Nobody scores again.
Here is a vid. In the first play Emma, in a fit of insanity, actually decides to play some offense. In the second play, with the "year older" team, she blocks a goal. Watch it to the end. This team, who she's never played with knows...
